Persephone is the Greek Goddess of Nature’s renewal, vegetation and flowers. But she is also the Queen of the Underworld, guardian of the secrets of the dead. She was known to the Romans as Proserpina.

According to the myth, Hades, Lord of the Underworld, fell in love with a young Persephone when she was wandering the fields gathering flowers, and snatched her from the earth to take her as his wife.

Every spring, the queen of Hades travels up to Olympus to spend a season with her mother, Demeter, as the first seeds begin to sprout. For as long as Demeter and her daughter Persephone are separated, the land remains barren.

Chant this prayer to invoke Persephone’s power of renewal and rebirth. Celebrate the spring or the start of any new cycle.
