Poseidon is the God of the sea, of horses and earthquakes. He was the son of Cronos and Rhea. In his benign aspect, Poseidon created new islands and provided sailors with calm seas. When he got angry or felt ignored, he would split the ground with his trident and cause chaotic springs, earthquakes, sinkings and shipwrecks. His Roman equivalent is Neptune.
