Venus is one of the most well-known Roman goddesses, known as the ruler of love, beauty and fertility. She was also the goddess of gardens and fields, because wherever she walked life emerged, plants grew and flowers bloomed.

Venus was identified with the Greek goddess Aphrodite and the Etruscan Turan, borrowing qualities from both. Additionaly, she was equivalent to Summerian goddess Inanna and Phoenician goddess Astarte, among others.

This prayer to Venus for love was inspired by Sappho: Considered one of the most outstanding poets of archaic Greek lyrical poetry, she was the founder of the House of the Muses’ Servants, and known as “the tenth muse”.
