Ingredients needed :

Rice – 1 cup
Toor dal – 1/2 cup
Oil (gingelly oil ) – 2 tsp
Mustard seeds & urad dal -1 tsp
Curry leaves – few
Onion -1
Green chilli – 2 slit
Ginger garlic paste – ¼ tsp
Tomato – 1 (optional )
Potato – 1
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Red chilli powder -1 tsp
Sambar powder – a pinch ( optional )
Salt to taste

Method :

1. Wash and soak rice and dal for 20 minutes. Drain the water and keep it aside. I used regular rice.(not basmati rice)
2. Add oil (gingelly oil) and mustard seeds and urad dal in the pressure cooker. Then add Onion, ginger garlic paste sauté until onion turn brown.
3. Add tomato,potato,green chilli and salt. saute well. (instead of potato you can use carrot also )
4. Add turmeric powder,red chilli powder,sambar powder (optional).
5. Add water of 3 cups and then add rice.
6. Pressure cook rice for 3 whistles, once the pressure subsides, open the cooker, mix the rice and you can add ghee ( 1 tsp) and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
