The liver acts as a filtering organ.
It works on eliminating fat and the toxins, which can increase the risk of inflammation and developing diseases.
A bloated stomach and abdominal pain on your right side are some of the top symptoms of liver problems.
But what causes problems in the liver?
The most common three causes of liver problems include excess fat and alcohol, abuse of medications, and lack of physical activities.
In this video, we will be discussing five signs of liver issues that can be shown in your feet.
Stay tuned to educate yourself on these symptoms.
After all, early detection is the key to prevention.
1. Edema
Most commonly known as swollen legs, edema is a telltale sign that there could be something wrong with your liver.
Luckily, you can test it yourself.
Just press your thumb on the side of the tibia for at least 2 seconds, then release.
If your skin leaves a dimple right afterward, it’s edema.
This means that there’s a liquid leaking in that area.
Albumin is an essential protein produced by the liver to keep the liquid in the blood.
Lack of albumin leads to the liquid flowing out from the blood vessels, hence, the swelling.
2. Itching feet
Contrary to popular belief, itchiness on your feet isn’t automatically due to a skin problem.
In some instances, this can indicate a liver problem.
Bilirubin is a substance produced when the red cells are destroyed and are then carried to the liver.
Its concentration is higher in blood and may get altered by liver lesions or biliary obstruction.
3. Hot feet
Have you felt a burning sensation on your feet and ankle?
If so, then this could be another symptom related to liver issues.
At this point, you should consider having a blood test done and seeking your doctor to know the cause(s) of this inflammation.
This usually happens when your liver is unable to drain enough blood, or when there’s liquid leaking from the blood, leading to poor circulation in the area.
4. Chilblains
Chilblains are a fungal infection that occurs in between your toes, specifically when that region is humid.
It’s a sign that you have low immunity.
Remember that the liver is one of the primary organs that functions to improve immunity.
A weakened immune system can mean infections and health problems like candidiasis.
5. Red dots on feet and/or legs
One of the liver’s main functions is to store a reserve of around 1 liter of blood for the body.
If you see red dots on your feet and/or legs, this could be a warning of underlying liver issues as it disrupts the clotting and healing of wounds.
Such dots resemble small hemorrhages, signaling that your blood clotting isn’t at its best performance.
Do you have any of those symptoms mentioned?
If so, make sure to do the necessary tests to determine the cause.
