You might think that it’s relatively easy to distinguish narcissists in the room. They’re the ones who are trying to get all attention. They do all shady works, from openly sharing exaggerated stories, being exploitative, and sometimes showing aggressive behaviour as well. They do all of those things so that people will admire them. That’s great that you know about them; unfortunately, your understanding of narcissist is only half right. How about other people in the room with pretty much the same exaggerated motivations for admiration and importance, yet possibly harder to identify?

Actually, when it comes to narcissists, there are two types: the first and relatively easy to spot is called grandiose narcissist, and the later is called ‘Covert narcissist’. You may also call them as ‘Introverted Narcissist’.

Introverted narcissists do exist, and they are extremely hard to spot in the first sight. The reason is that they don’t show themselves quite often. Introverted narcissists are more vulnerable and defensive; it’s due to their introverted nature. They often appear to be calm and modest, and even caring and empathetic as well, but inside, they harbour pretty much the same grandiose traits.

And when they do show their true nature, they are actually more draining than grandiose narcissists. Unfortunately, most of the time, you’ll never know that you have such a friend until you get really close to them.
