Have you ever heard of Burkina Faso? It’s a Colorado-sized African country near the Sahara Desert. Its name means “Land of Honest People.” And the temperature here averages 28°C (82°F). It’s the warmest country in the world. But the hottest place on Earth is Iran’s Lut Desert. It holds the record for having the Earth’s hottest surface temperature, which can climb as high as 71°C (159°F). By the way, sand dunes in this desert can be over 1,500 ft in height – taller than Empire State Building!

As for the hottest inhabited place on Earth, it’s Dallol, Ethiopia – a cauldron of burning salt, volcanic rock, and sulfuric acid. It has the world’s highest average temperature for an inhabited place, calculated at 35°C. However, the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth is 57°C (134°F). It happened on July 10, 1913 in Furnace Creek, California. Okay, yes, maybe it’s a bit confusing. But there’s nothing that you need to remember!
