Whenever we are exposed to something unknown we perceive some amount of normal amount of stress and anxiety, but COVID-19 has brought not only stress of infection, stress of unknown but also a paradigm change in the way we act, the way we think , the way we behave. Why is that? Be it work from home, be it lockdown, be it socializing or physical distancing, be it digital learning for children or the whole family sitting in the house for moths together, domestic violence, increased use of substances, obesity, lack of exercise they have all thrown up allergies, which we commonly term as stress is a cascade of changes in the brain, psychological and behavioral. Stress can have devastating effects if it becomes chronic. It can pave way for many medical disorders be it diabetes, hypertension or stroke, how do we manage this? Covid is a temporary situation and is going to improve. We have to see how to learn adaptive coming ways to understand and get out of this stressful reaction. It is a temporary reaction that is going to end. Various people have had various emotional change to stress, people having different phases of emotional reaction be it denial anger, bargaining stuck in depression, or some of us have accepted and have moved ahead. We need to work on what is feasible and what is changeable the way we work, time duration screen time, intake of substances like alcohol, regular exercise are things in our hand what we can do. Excessive information like watching news channels is a big No. always get information from authentic sources, like for doctors or from government sources, but never from other social media. What should we learn? We should learn LEARN. L – Laughter, E – Exercise, A – Attitude, R –Rest, N – Nutrition. So this is the easy we are going to get out of this pandemic very shortly and at the end of this we have to come out with something new to beat the stress.
