Easy Modular Origami Pinwheel Box & Lid Tutorial – Paper Kawaii

Learn how to make a simple modular origami box with a pinwheel on the lid. This origami box is great for those just starting with modular origami. The box and lid are each made with 4 sheets of square paper, no glue is required.

This is possibly the simplest modular origami box you could make, that being said, you still need to fold the paper correctly, make sure all the creases line up etc.

The big box to store paper: I used 30 x 30 cm card to make it, it fits standard 15 x 15 cm paper (not snug, a little loose).

To make one for your size of origami paper, simply use paper that is double the size of the origami paper you want to store, and use thick paper or cardstock.

At the end of the video I also demonstrate how the box can be made sturdier, inside the box and on the lid. There are many variations you could make to the lid! – Some are coming up in future videos.

Type of paper: I used thicker paper in the video, modular boxes work better with thick paper, or textured paper. You can still make the box with thin origami paper. Thin card would also work but you may want to use a creasing tool so that you don’t hurt your hands.

Of course the box can also be used as a lid if you like the simple look of it, and then you can have a surprise pinwheel on the inside!

Thicker paper: trim the paper you use for the box to be about 14.5 x 14.5 cm (method shown at the beginning of the video).

Final model size: 8 x 8 x 5.3 cm
