How to Block a Sweater That Fits

This video is an excerpt from the Everyday Raglan pattern tutorial.

You’ve knit a sweater. Congratulations! Give yourself a big pat on the back and dance wildly to guilty-pleasure music because this is a BIG DEAL.

Feel great? Alright! Now that you’ve cast off your sweater, you need to block your sweater to shape. This involves:

1. Dunking it in lukewarm water
2. Letting it soak so that all the fibers are submerged
3. Gently pushing out the water (don’t wring it or it may felt!)
4. Laying your sweater flat to dry
5. Arranging your sweater so that it matches your pattern’s finished measurements (or the finished measurements that you want)
6. Wear your sweater and accept compliments with glee
