We’re going to talk a little bit about caulking and I’ve inspected this area next to the baseboard and there’s this huge gouge here where an old wire was torn out. Now I’m scraping a clean and it looks like it could be something that if we didn’t want to go so in depth with our joint compound mixes or ready patch or wood filler, you might be a will to get away with using caulk. Now I’m back here the lower end 25 year is cheaper caulk that is very easy to apply but the higher in the year, the better. I might be using here phenol salt which is a combination of caulk and adhesive.

It’s very strong. Either one of these is going to shrink a little bit so it’s probably going to take two applications, but let’s take a look… This is your standard caulk gun. I like to use one that has a built-in needle for puncturing the front of the caulk. Now it doesn’t really matter what color the caulk is because I’m going to paint over it, but this is a brand-new tube and we generally want to cut the end off. Okay? You can use the needle to make sure the caulk is fluid… Okay? We’ll go. Have on hand a very wet rag also. Let’s put it on real thick, real deep, let it come out… Where it’s protruding from the crack. A little extra here, all right.

That’s definitely going to think and, it’s going to need more work after this but caulk is still a very easy way to do it. Make sure my fingers are very wet and just smooth it out and let’s get a smaller bits down here. And again this isn’t a perfect restoration, no. But you saw how damaged it was, so this will give me a quick way if I was going around the whole apartment and doing a basic repair. Alright? So that’ll sink in and it’ll need a second coat, but there you go. Now before I go this edge over here, this is more of what you’ll run into in the normal case of an old apartment like this. But still is a pretty rough edge so a lot of times is good to put a nice caulk line there especially if you’re having two different paint colors because you want to be able to form a nice line. Alright.

Your caulk not sand-able that’s why you smooth it out carefully with your fingers because whatever affect you get is what you’re stuck with. Okay so we’re going to let that dry. It shrinks and his things and a little bit. That’s why I might want a second coat of caulk over here. That’s it on the baseboards so now we’ll show one more way to use caulk on an accent wall, and accent color. Another little known use of caulking is on accent walls. We’re doing a gold color ceiling right up to the stage and then your basic white ceiling starts here so this is gold white and we want a sharp line, but I have inconsistencies right here and there is a dent right in the corner that was done and construction some going to put a caulk line right here in the corner and then coming out. I’ve got my wet rag. I’m going to smooth it out. I’m going to use my finger right in the corner…

And now take the line out. That’s going to enable me to use the delicate cut tape to make a perfect line on an accent color. Is going to be awesome.
