Hey, guys. Gypsy with the Skate Truck NYC. We’re going to go over crossing over around a corner. So first you can start with an off-skate drill where you do the crossing over without your skates on so you can figure out the balance and the weight transfer. And then that way when you put your skates on, muscle memory will be there, and your body will already know what’s going on. So get down low in your squat position.
We are going to transfer all your weight to your left leg. Pick up your right. Cross it over. It will be slightly in front, but you want to make sure that your toes are still both pointing in the same direction forward. If you turn and your toe comes back out, then that means you’re going to trip over yourself. So make sure that toe is still pointing in. You’re going to weight transfer then to your right foot. You’ll see how when you push it actually goes on your pinky toe, and then you’ll fall back over to your left.
So it’s always nose, knee, toe. So again, starting here, weight transfer, nose, knee, toe. Arm swing, opposite hand to the opposite foot that’s on the ground. Push. Cross it in front. As you weight transfer, your back leg will extend. And then you will fall back over, nose, knee, toe. So you want to keep your hips and your shoulders square to the turn. If you don’t want to bend down in a speed skating or roller derby position, just make sure that your knees are bent, and then step in front. Okay. So here we go. This is what it looks like. So as you’re doing your crossing over, again make sure you’re leaning to the inside of the turn, whichever direction that you’re going. Nose, knee, toe. And push straight to the side. And that is how you do crossing over.
