How to Knit a Make One (M1) Knitting Increase – Left & Right Leaning (M1L & M1R) | Beginner Lesson

This video will walk you through the process of knitting a ‘Make One’, which is an increase technique where you add another stitch to your needles using the yarn running between your needles.

It is often referred to as an ‘invisible’ increase because it doesn’t make an obvious bump or other marker in your knitting where you do the increase.

The stitch can be left or right leaning, and I will show you both. If your pattern only tells you to do an ‘M1’, then I would recommend using the left leaning M1 as default.

“Right-leaning” or “left-leaning” just refers to the appearance of the increase on the front of your work; it will appear to lean slightly to the right or to the left 🙂

Thanks for watching!
