How to: s2kpo Centred Double Decrease | Slip 2 Together, Knit 1, Pass Slipped Stitches Over

Learn how to knit the s2kpo decrease (aka s2kp or sl2tog k1 psso) with this beginner’s knitting lesson, which goes slowly through the steps.

S2kpo stands for ‘slip 2 together, knit 1, pass slipped stitches over’. It is a technique that reduces the number of stitches on your needles by 2, making it a double decrease.

Unlike most decrease and increase techniques, the s2kpo is a centred decrease, and therefore does not lean to either the left or to the right. It is quite symmetrical.
That’s because this decrease is worked over 3 stitches; you start with 3 stitches on the left needle and you finish with just the 1 central stitch on the right hand needle.
