Skin peeling or skin dryness is a reality ad it is called as Winter Xerosis and especially as we grow older the amount of oil secretion by the oil gland of the body pats especially the back, the legs and the back decreases year on years and in winter it is much more accentuated, so the forest thing I would like to tell my patients is to make sure you are having a lukewarm bath as very hot water bath strips your skin of the natural oils. Application of a nice virgin coconut oil, maybe a thin layer helps to protect the skin from becoming overly dry. Post the application have a bath with a pH balance syndet soap or a pH balance body wash which does not strip the extra oil from the skin and then dont linger in your bath, makes sure you restrict your bath to less than 5 minutes, after that you can apply a thick coat of moisturizer which contains white soft paraffin, and this has to be applied every 3 to 4 hours so tag the skin stays moisturized throughout the winter season. Make sure to apply moisturizer before you go to bed especially in dry areas like dry areas like knees, elbows and wear a socks before you go to bed to prevent further dryness of skin. Some people also develop eczema and that needs extreme care by dermatologists. So make sure you are following these steps and if you are not getting relief. Speak to your dermatologist. Also do not forget that you have to eat more essential fatty acid containing foods like flax seeds, walnuts, fish that keeps you r skin smooth in winter season.
