What are the reasons for swelling around the last tooth?-Dr. Sowmya Vijapure

Swelling around the last tooth is due to various reasons. One of the most common among them are the eruption of the wisdom tooth. When a wisdom tooth erupts there is a little bit infection around the wisdom teeth. This tends to be a condition known as pericoronitis. That is when the tooth is erupting the surrounding tissue gets inflamed. This is one of the most common reason. Apart from this there are various reasons why there is swelling around the last tooth. One of them is the decayed tooth or the accumulation of the food or formation of a pocket between the teeth and the gum tissues. All these factors tend to hold food within the teeth and the tissues surrounding the teeth which will cause the swelling . if the reason for the swelling around the last tooth is the wisdom tooth, then the treatment should be done. First thing is the debridement, the removal of the food that is accumulated in the gum tissue and antibiotic and analgesics to be prescribed. Apart from this any other reason like a decayed tooth or the pocket formation are to be treated. If at all it is a decayed teeth the teeth needs to be filled.
