The common causes of itching in vagina is a problem which should be done by gynaecologist. However certain skin diseases like a Eczema, Lichen sclerosus can also cause itching in the vagina, other common causes of vaginal itching is when a person uses soaps or cleaning agents to wash the vaginal area. So the vaginal area is a very sensitive area and only plain water cold water should be used to watch that particular area. Other common causes related to vaginal itching could be urinary tract infection, where you would also noticed burning sensation when you pass urine, you might also have fever and chills. Another common cause of itching in vagina in sexually transmitted infections like louse and bacterial vaginosis, however it should always be kept in mind that a consultation with a gynaecologist is important to rule out gynaecological problems in the vaginal itching. Another common infection of the vaginal area is known as Candidiasis; it’s a fungal infection of the vaginal area and is more common in those who have diabetes. Diabetes itself can be a cause of vaginal itching because of the irritation of the nerves. Another cause of vaginal itching in older age women is postmenopausal itching, when the hormones in the body have reduced to such an extent that the
vagina becomes very dry causing itching. Certain rare conditions like early cancer or lichen sclerosus can also cause itching and hence vaginal itching in the elderly must never be ignored.
