How to get fuller cheeks? – Dr. Deepak P Devakar

Cheeks are part of the face which gives contour and good shape to the face. If the cheeks are lost it gives aged look to the face. Cheek contour is created by the cheek bones on which the soft tissue is sitting. If the soft tissue volume is lost it will give a more aged effect to the skin and face looks more flatter. With ageing there is loss of this volume creating wrinkles and dull effect to the face. Whatever creams are applied on the face the face still may look dull and aged. This can be corrected by doing a procedure called as a dermal filler. A dermal filler is a gel which is injected into the skin under local anaesthesia. This is injected at various points which gives a natural shape without any noticeable difference on the face. It takes away almost 10 years from your skin by doing a short procedure lasting two minutes only. There are two parts of the cheek. The medial part, that is the inner part of the cheek and outer part or the lateral part of the cheek. Cheek bone may be deficient in some of them and it might be asymmetric. This unevenness also can be corrected by doing a dermal filler. You may require around 2 to 4 mL of dermal filler to correct a cheek ideally. With age there is some volume loss in the middle part of the face which gives a more dark circle appearance just under the eyes. This loss can be corrected by doing a filler. It is also done by another option which is known as a fat filler. We can take a small quantity of fat from your body and this can be injected through micro cannula into the cheek. So there is no restriction of volume here. More quantity can be used to create natural shape. Fat being a soft material gives good contour to the cheek and it will last many more years compared to a dermal filler. Cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon will be the right person to advice you on your procedure.
