Ovarian cysts can be of different types. They can be the functional ovarian cyst i.e. the follicular cyst or the corpusluteal cyst. These functional ovarian cyst can interfere with the ovulation and also can interfere with the chances of pregnancy. Ideally these cysts have to be treated with a course or two of combined oral contraceptive pills and they usually subside within a month or two with this treatment. After this once it is subsided ovulation or pregnancy chances can be increased by giving ovulation induction agents. Some of this like the endometrial cyst or the chocolate cyst can also interfere with the pregnancy. These cysts are treated laparoscopically and are removed before planning for pregnancy for improving the chances of pregnancy. Some cysts like the benign cysts adenoma of the ovary or dermoid cyst do not usually cause any problem in conception. But after becoming pregnant these cysts might grow in size and they are known to go for torsion. Therefore these cysts ideally have to be removed before planning for pregnancy.
