Is fetal weight as 228 gm normal in 8th month of Pregnancy? – Dr. Nupur Sood

This is a very common thing that we come across less especially when towards the 7th or 8th month when the amniotic fluid index or the amniotic fluid levels are basically checked for the baby to check up any problems around it. If the levels are increasing or decreasing, it is not healthy for the baby. So usually around 30 weeks which is being mentioned, that is around the 8th month, the amniotic fluid is quite high. It goes upto 14 and it gradually starts reducing, it will stop. If there is any particular chart that is maintained because every population according to the age group, according to the high risk factors, whether you are a primi or a multigravida. So various other risk factors are considered before charting it out and it is always a serial consideration that is more important. So if you look into your scan reports, you would see charting or growth charts which are mentioned. So every time you go for visiting or consulting for your sonology, you would know that the amniotic fluid levels having a rising trend or it is remaining in the same trend. That is of more significance than a particular value at a particular scan alone, unless it is significantly low or high. Similarly the weight also, around 30 weeks, it should be 1 to 1.5 kg baby and that again has to be maintained by a growth chart because if you are genetically predisposed to have a small for gestational age baby, then just alone a small birth weight has of no significance. So again that charting is done on the growth charts and again every 4 to 6 weeks when the charting is done in the growth scan can pick up any growth restriction that is happening or if it is an overweight baby, then that also can be picked up.
