Most common causes of blood in stool – Dr. Rajasekhar M R

Blood in stool are of two types. One is blood mixed with stools. So what it means there is bleeding higher in the large intestine where it is mixed with blood and coming, but the cases for it are different. But usually what we see in the pan when passing stools and fresh blood is a concern for many people where proctologists come into play. So in that blood which is fresh blood, usually drops of blood during or just immediately after passing motion, they are caused by three common causes. Haemorrhoids or piles are nothing but bunches of blood vessels arranged in three groups inside the anal canal. Everybody has. They enlarge due to different reasons and they starts bleeding, while passing motion. So that is one of the reasons for bleeding wile passing motion the other cause for bleeding is a fissure before a cut because of hard stools cutting though the anal canal. So that is also the cause of bleeding. There are other reasons, benign conditions like polyp, ulcer can cause bleeding from the anal canal. But more dangerous cause for bleeding from anal canal, though it is not as common as piles or fissure is cancers. So anybody who is having bleeding per rectum, we have to do clinical examination, rectal examination using a video rectoscope and a digital examination using a finger we will examine to exclude cancer, that is the basic requirement. So any bleeding per rectum must not be considered as by heat or something and don’t wait long because we regularly see quite a number of patients where they think bleeding is by piles and then waited for a long time. They have even goes to the doctors who have treated without examining the patient and the precious time is lost. So cancer causing bleeding is very dangerous disease and that should be excluded for any bleeding with the stools.
