Pits, pocks, dents, scars are various types of scars. Scars can be depressed scars or elevated or bulging scars. Bulging scars are more common on the nose, the chin sometimes on the glandular area. They are called as papular scars. On the face they go for a depression. So whenever the scars are depressed and no matter whatever you do the texture of the scars and the surrounding skin is different. So for that reason any scar is an improvement of a scar. You can’t erase the scar. If you have a dark spot of pimple you can remove it with a cream, peel or laser because it is melanin and melanin can be removed whereas if you have a depression in the skin, there is not only depression but also the superficial skin texture is altered. The lasered skin texture will be replaced . The area you cut and trim you end up in a small line. So any scar needs an improvement, you cannot erase it completely and to improve the scars there are various technologies like microdermabrasion and very old technology now not so commonly used by dermatologists like deramroller for skin, newer modalities like tixel, microneedle RA , lasers have been used among lasers there are variously kind of lasers , like the fractional CO2, Nd- YAG laser, erbium glass laser, we use pico lasers. So various lasers are there , also procedure s like platelet rich plasma. So whenever we are treating scars, it is not single modality, we use different modalities and everything works on a different principle. The whole concept is you go into the scar and use whatever armamentarium to improve the scar. So for that reason we use this. Second thing is there is an individual variation, not everyone responds to the technologies in the same way. So when this is done, overall the scars can be remove and icepick scars, boxcars, rolling scars are different types of scars where there is morphological difference and sometimes we may have to remove this scar. This is called as a scar excision and in some areas we do surgical excision of scars or we do subsicion. So as an integrated approach the scar is approached it is no one single modality. By adopting these things most of the scars can be achieved in appreciable esthetics.
