Spotting before menses is called as premenstrual spotting. Spotting after menses is called as post menstrual. Both the condition can be because of dysfunction of the corpus luteum. What is corpus luteum? This is a structure in the ovary which produces progesterone . Progesterone is a hormone which keeps the cycles regular. At times what happens is the corpus luteum stops functioning even before its destination, that is the corpus luteum stops functioning even before is destination, usually the v stops functioning before 14daysso if it stops functioning before 14 days, then the lady can have premenstrual spotting In the other way of the corpus luteum, stops functioning even before 14days, she can have postmenstrual spotting . Corpus luteum dysfunction can be due to various factors lie stress factors, food habits, environment, other habits, so all these can affect the corpus luteum. So whenever there is premenstrual spotting and postmenstrual spotting, it is for 3months. It is of nothing to worry much. However any menstrual irregularity has to be evaluated by a gynecologist. It should not be assumed as normal without being tested.
