In pregnancy there is about 20% increase in the red blood cell levels but more than 50% increase in the plasma levels. This condition is called the hemodilution. So basically the haemoglobin will fall in pregnancy. A level of around 10.5 gm% of haemoglobin usually is called a normal anemia of pregnancy and does not affect usually the pregnancy provided we support the pregnant woman with enough diet counselling, iron supplements to take care of the pregnancy again lesser to that anything is anemia and needs to be treated.
