When is low lying placenta seen? Can this be seen in TIFFA at 20 weeks?-Dr. Teena S Thomas

Now TIFFA scan is an anomaly scan which is done around 20 weeks of pregnancy, number one, the second thing is at 20 weeks of pregnancy, the lower segment of the uterus is not formed. So there is nothing like placenta in the lower segment. It can only be mentioned as low lying placenta. For a placenta to be in the lower segment, the scan should specify it only around 30 to 32 weeks. After 28 weeks is when the lower segment starts forming. So lower segment placenta comes in that specific word comes in only after 28 to 30 weeks. At around TIFFA scan if there is a lower segment placenta, lower level or lower lying placenta, than you just have to follow up, counsel the patient that yes, there is a possibility that yes, there is a possibility of a lower lying placenta and 99.5%, the placenta will move up, and there should not be an issue in the future. But there is 4.5% of a lower segment attached placenta, which we can diagnose around 30-32 weeks. Then care to avoid excessive exercise, minimal walking can be allowed and second is to report urgently if there is any bleeding on discharge.
