Bloody mucus or mucus from the secretions in nose is an indication that there is something happening inside the nose, either in the form of injury or infections where the tissues are damaged and the blood vessels are damaged and there is some source of blood for, somewhere. Most commonly this bloody mucus happens in people who are cleaning their nose forcefully, or vigorously. Some of us have the habit of blowing the nose to clean every morning we do it religiously or forcefully. Over a period of time the tissues get battered so much that they get damaged and there will be a blood tinge in the mucus if there are no other symptoms like blocked nose or headaches or the mucus itself is being coloured or thick, smelly, then we just need basic investigations that this is just a simple injury related blood, not anything else there are other situations where we have some diseases happening in the nose it can be some diseases like common cold to most dangerous tumours in the nose. So if you have any blood or bloody mucus from the nose, we should look at the inside of the nostrils and a bit of the sinuses as well. The bests way is to get to an ENT specialist and have a check-up with him and they will do an endoscopy to visualise the inside of the nostrils and locate the side of the injury or the source of blood. This we are almost 90% where it is coming from after why it is bleeding the other thing we have to do is a CT scan if the sinus which gives a detailed information about the nasal cavity and the sinuses and we can easily locate the issue and appropriate treatment will be initiated if we locate. If we look at the simplest form of the injury, the first thing is to stop injuring the nose. So stop blowing the nose forcefully. Mucus is a part of the nose, the nasal cavity and your throat. By removing it we are not helping the body. Sometimes when you are having an infection or some allergies, then there will be a little excess mucus. So please leave a little bit mucus behind, even your nose block is not mucus. So when we blow out the mucus you get a relief of only a few seconds because nose block is caused by tissues that are swollen and congested. So you take appropriate medicines and do some steam and nose will open up rather than forcefully blowing it and causing injury to yourself. When you have an infection or allergic episode then you are already struggling with it and injury will make things worse for you.
